About this Event
We appear to live in a world, a time and a season in which we are constantly being encouraged, consciously and unconsciously, to be suspicious of others. The violence seen on our streets this summer has reinforced this kind of fear, which has been stirred up around those we deem to be different from ourselves. For some time now, certain politicians, seeing this as gaining some traction with a section of voters, have misleadingly steered the narrative in conjunction with parts of the media. Politicians and world leaders generally, cannot just focus on fiscal policies and The Market. Attention has to be given to creating a cohesive community, society, country and world. There must be intentional focus around advocacy, reconciliation and the necessity of us being interdependent. During the pandemic we saw many in the community, some for the first time, acknowledging and reaching out to neighbours in acts of kindness. Although covid brought us many trials, it also brought us a new lifeline. Now beyond Covid, it is beginning to look as though we may however have forgotten just ‘who is my neighbour!’
