About Anita Baker
Born in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in Detroit, Anita Baker rose from singing in local clubs to becoming one of the most celebrated R&B and soul vocalists of all time. Known as the “Queen of Quiet Storm,” Baker’s career took off with her 1983 debut album The Songstress. But it was her 1986 release Rapture — featuring the Grammy-winning hit “Sweet Love” — that catapulted her into superstardom.
With her sultry contralto voice and signature style, Baker created timeless classics including “Caught Up in the Rapture,” “Giving You the Best That I Got,” and “No One in the World.” Over her career, she earned 8 Grammy Awards, 4 American Music Awards, and a permanent place in the hearts of millions. Her music embodies romance, sophistication, and the soulful essence of Detroit.
