About this Event
What can humans learn from animals? On Oct 6, we are getting up to monkey business to find out as well as celebrate World Animal Day. Come and hear the poets cough up the frog, spit the fir ball and unbell the cat as they splash, bleat, purr, quack and oink, sharing inner animal totem characteristics: appearance, demeanour, hunting tactics, feeding habits and more. They may share what the little birdie told them last night, speak in animal grunts or lament like mudskippers stranded at a low tide moment in their lives in first (animal) person point of view. You might hear how they rely on foxy cunning, suffer the pain of puppy love or that it’s climate change time to let loose the dogs of war and complain about how humans treat them. As well as speaking as animal personas the poets may also address animal and environmental issues in third person. And as the animal realm is so generous should writers not have animal-specific references in their poems they can jabber on about whatever they want.
