The Ancient and Modern Folk Music of Southern Italy

An intimate concert exploring many of the ancient and newer folk music traditions of the Sud Italia. The culmination of several years of research throughout the Italian peninsula, Festa Popolare takes listeners through worlds of myth and mysticism, largely unchanged for centuries or millennia prior to the coming of modernity following the second World War. These songs are presented in their original, often endangered languages and played on rare, authentic instruments seldom seen outside their native regions.
