About this Event
This workshop urges attendees to consider the role of criticism, how it can inspire change, and the importance of ethical criticism. For the discussion, we will analyze three pieces of criticism that engage music, film, or television. We will work to identify the stakes around the stories, the methods that writers are using to make their points, and we will discuss whether or not they were effective.
Lawrence Burney is a writer, critic, and the founder of True Laurels, an independent magazine covering Baltimore’s music and culture scene. His work has appeared in New York Magazine, The Washington Post, GQ, and Pitchfork. No Sense in Wishing, his debut essay collection, is out now from Atria Books.
Registration required. In the event of open spaces when the program begins, walk-ins will be accepted until we have reached capacity.
