The music of J.S. Bach reveal a profound understanding of music’s healing power across many human emotional experiences. The concert will feature three major works by the master composer.The Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor demonstrates Bach’s mastery of the French dance suite, a genre that dominated German court entertainment during his era. Composed in Leipzig in 1727 for the Feast of the Purification of Mary, this cantata draws its inspiration from the biblical story of Simeon, the elderly man who, having seen the infant Jesus, declares himself ready to depart in peace. Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen presents a striking contrast with its “overflowing jubilation and radiant beauty,” as Bach scholar Klaus Hofmann observes.
