The Virginia Black History Month Association (VaBHMA) will host its Annual Black Health Fair on Friday, 21 February 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. The Health Fair will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm the day before the 25th Anniversary Virginia Black History Month Gala. The event is $5.00 each and is open to the public! All are welcome to attend. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served for all in attendance. The Black Health Fair: According to the US Department of Health and Human Services - Office of Minority Health, African American adults are 80% more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to have been diagnosed with diabetes by a physician. In addition, African American men and women are 30% more likely to die from heart disease than non-Hispanic white males. For many of us, these statistics are not only alarming but preventable in some cases. Time after time, we hear of family and friends who were diagnosed with a serious illness which could have had a better outcome, if only, they would have been making regular visits to the doctor’s office for checkups and preventative screenings.
Therefore, the VaBHMA has invited 30 or more Healthcare Organizations to perform on-the-spot prescreening (if possible), provide lifesaving information, or set up appointments for the community to get screened by their private physician. We aim to save lives by providing much-needed information to those most in need it. ....the African American Community.
