About this Event

It’s time to give another North London’s salute to the enduring genius of James Joyce and his novel ‘Ulysses’ , as the world-famous Anglo-Irish Balloonatics Theatre Company returns for the 3rd Annual London Bloomsday Morning Walk on Sunday, the 11th of June 2022.

As ever, our celebration will see us take a stroll through the streets of Tufnell Park and Dartmouth Park, following Leopold Bloom, one of the novel’s two central characters, as he goes about his day, eavesdropping on his thoughts, hopes and brief encounters with the various chancers, neighbours, shopkeepers and imaginary girls who populate his day and his ever-wandering mind. For the first time this year he’s joined by his equally wandering wife Molly, with extracts from her famous soliloquy from her bed, adding a whole new female voice to the proceedings.

The walk starts outside Acland Burghley School in Burghley Road NW5 at 11.00 am and proceeds from there. At around 12.30 we will arrive at The Dartmouth Arms, standing in here for Davy Byrne’s ‘moral pub’, where we’ll also meet Nosey Flynn and Blazes Boylan, before giving the final affirmative word from Molly. You’re then invited to join Mr Bloom for a traditional Bloomsday lunch – a Gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy.

Don’t worry if you have never read the book – when you see and hear Joyce’s words performed live and listen to the introductions, you’ll be fully briefed to be transported to Dublin in 1904 and the inner world of some amazing characters. Joyce fans too will be thrilled to see and hear the book brought to life, by a company who know how to create a moving, hilarious, musical and highly entertaining celebration of a true modern master.

This is always a hugely popular event and it’s all FREE too – though we will be passing the hat round at the end to buy liquid refreshment for the cast, as it’s thirsty work.

Please reserve here so we have an idea of numbers, though the odd stray will be welcome to show up on the day. As this is a literary event and a proper walk with some adult moments it’s NOT suitable for children.
