About this Event
The 19th was born out of a commitment to equity in journalism, and we believe the future of this work lies in connection and community. That’s why we’re partnering with the Journalists of Color community to throw a networking mixer during ONA, and we’d love for you to join us!
This special afternoon gathering is hosted by The 19th’s Frances Ellen Watkins Harper Fellowship program, which supports early- and mid-career HBCU alums with full-time salaried roles in our newsroom, and The 19th News Network (19NN), a collective of national, regional and local publishers seeking to advance racial and gender equity in politics and policy journalism.
Both the HBCU fellowship and 19NN are part of our broader mission: creating more space, support and visibility for journalists who’ve historically been left out of the industry.
This year, we’ll raise a glass to JOC as they celebrate a decade of connection among journalists of color. Founded in 2015 as a Slack community, it has grown into a global network of more than 5,100 members, bringing together journalists who seek support and solidarity.
If you’re in New Orleans, come hang with us! Meet The 19th’s fellows, 19NN partners, JOCs and this year’s journalism scholars from local HBCUs. Let’s celebrate our vibrant journalism community with informal conversations, meaningful connections and lots of delicious light bites and beverages.
