In celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Dragon this year, local Angelinos and people from all States have come to Los Angeles Chinatown and participated at the 124th Golden Dragon Parade!
Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles will celebrate the Year of Dragon on February 17, 2024. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to gather and line the streets every year, in the five block radius spanning North Broadway and Hill street in Chinatown. Families, friends and children of all ages will be cheering on the marching bands, kung fu performers, lion dancers and the newly crowned Miss Chinatown Los Angeles, Kellie Chin, and her Royal Court. This will be the 2024 Miss Los Angeles Chinatown Court’s first public appearance since being coronated on January 27, 2024 at the 61st Miss Chinatown Los Angeles competition at the San Gabriel Sheraton.
The 124th Golden Dragon Parade was sponsored by Cathay Bank, Young Engineering & Manufacturing, KNBC Channel 4, etc.. Floats and convertible cars will represent 120 years of this tradition, with the generous support and sponsorship from luxury car dealer, RUSNAK Pasadena, who supplied a brigade of Bentleys, Mercedes and Jaguars for the parade. ABC7 has done a Live Streaming on their website of the entire 2023 Parade! Massive broadcast and reports from all media, online media and social media.
The parade usually begins promptly at 1pm and last until 4pm. It is free to view and open to the public, although prime seating at the Grandstand can be purchased. Please stay tuned for tickets sales. The parade kicks off at the intersection of Hill Street and Ord Street and makes a full lap over the 3 hours.
As Chinese Americans gather from all over Los Angeles to continue the festivities around the Lunar New Year, what they celebrate most of all is this time of families coming together – of gathering, unity and giving thanks for the coming year. Many partake in a traditional Lunar New Year dinner filled with special dishes to bring on fortune, health and happiness, as well as a time to remember their ancestors. Children receive red envelopes filled with lucky money from their elders and relatives, as this is an auspicious sign of good fortune.
As for the Chinese Zodiac, 2024 marks the Year of the Dragon. The Chinese Zodiac features twelve animals, and each year within a twelve year cycle is represented by one zodiac animal. The Dragon year is usually a powerful year.
The Chinese Chamber of Los Angeles welcomes all in Los Angeles and around the world to join us this Saturday for the 125th Golden Dragon Parade.
