The exhibition consists of acrylic, ink and pencil on a range of substrates. From one large-format painting, surrounded by medium-sized canvas as well as a selection of small panels. All are inspired by the house she grew up in: A work of architecture full of extensions and materials from different eras, patches and repairs. The bathroom had one door to enter, and another to disappear through, in pure Pink Panther style. Constanza’s room was in complete darkness at 12 noon because it had been left without a window after adding another room. The kitchen pantry was connected through a small secret tunnel with an out-of-service bathroom that served as a clubhouse. The dark wooden ceiling was full of shapes to ignite the imagination before going to sleep. And the floor, a grid of peeling parquet, was impossible to repair.
The paintings are a collage of architectural forms with veils of colour, light and shadow. Repairs and errors are covered by other layers.
Inspired by childhood memories, Constanza's artistic production aims to show the beauty of the mistake, to explore repetition and process. Constanza works with the juxtaposition of colours and textures, and endless superposition of them on many layers. Layers that together tell the story behind. She invites you to submerge into this colourful world of imperfections. Originally from South America, her work has been selected for important group shows, solo shows and galleries across New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. She now lives with her family in Papamoa where she works from her home studio.
