About this Event
Nat Thaipun is an exciting local TV chef, barista and new author. The third generation of her family to be in kitchens and restaurants, Nat burst on to the culinary landscape winning Masterchef Australia Series 16 in 2024 weaving her bold and exciting take on traditional Thai cooking into every dish she presented.
Fast forward a year (and after time in a number of fine dining kitchens) Nat is about to release her debut cookbook, a rich and evocative book on Thai food, filled with a wide range of dishes, familiar and unusual, traditional and contemporary, but all delicious.
Nat grew up in regional Victoria where her parents ran a popular Thai restaurant. Immersed in kitchens and hospitality, it was perhaps inevitable that she found her way to cooking professionally although perhaps by not the most traditional route.
Her debut book is an authorative yet approachable collection of Thai dishes that fit right into the Modern Australian culinary landscape. Recipes are grouped by ingredient and technique and the techniques are well explained often with step-by-step photography. Riffs and out-takes on traditional dishes are scattered through the book together with helpful asides.
This is a very enticing and we think rewarding book. If you like Thai flavours you will be hungry just looking at it. And if you already cook Thai style food, there is a lot that will extend your skills and adventures in the kitchen.
Beautifully shot by David Loftus, this is an extremely interesting modern monograph on a complex and beautiful cuisine.
We are very much looking forward to chatting with Nat about her bold, brilliant and evocative food that is deeply rooted in her Thai heritage.
Please join us on Thursday 30th October for a wonderful discussion. As usual tastes from the book will be served.
Tickets are limited.
