About The Cars
The Cars were an American rock band that emerged from the Boston new wave scene in 1976 as pioneers of synthesizer-oriented power pop that mixed punk minimalism with rockabilly revivalism. Named Best New Artist by Rolling Stone in 1978, the band consisted of vocalist/guitarist Ric Ocasek, vocalist/bassist Benjamin Orr, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, and drummer David Robinson. Their debut album, The Cars, sold six million copies and remained on the Billboard 200 album chart for 139 weeks. They scored Top-10 hits with “Shake It Up,” “Drive,” and “Tonight She Comes,” as well as won the first-ever MTV Video of the Year award for “You Might Think.” The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
