In this immersive session, you’ll explore how texture, colour, and layering can bring landscapes—and personal stories—to life. Using acrylic paint and a variety of materials for mark making, you’ll learn techniques to create rich, tactile surfaces that capture both the energy of the land and the emotions of your own journey. Drawing inspiration from New Zealand’s breathtaking landscapes, we’ll also reflect on the idea of pathways—how our personal experiences, travels, and transitions can shape the way we see and express the world around us. Textured Journeys: Landscape Painting Workshop

Nik Williams is an artist and teacher based in Tauranga, New Zealand. Originally from England, he draws inspiration from the landscapes of his adopted home, creating textured acrylic paintings that capture moments of connection to place. His process begins with photography and evolves in the studio, where he employs techniques influenced by Impressionist light and David Hockney’s vibrancy, using tools like palette knives to build layered, dynamic compositions.
His artistic practice is deeply intertwined with his role as an educator. For Williams, creating art is a reflective process that fosters a personal engagement with the world. This experience directly informs his teaching, allowing him to bring authenticity and empathy into the classroom. He views art as a transformative pursuit, one that enriches both his own creative voice and the learning journey of his students.
