The National Archives at St. Louis is pleased to offer research services for the textual records in our holdings.
Research visits are by appointment only and are scheduled no further than three months in advance. New weekly appointment blocks open each Monday. The Research Room is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
All researchers must register for a NARA Researcher Card. Researchers are encouraged to pre-register in advance of a visit. This process consists of two parts, including completing the Online Researcher Orientation and Online Kiosk Registration.
Researchers may request a virtual consultation. To request a virtual consultation, please email at least two weeks in advance of your scheduled visit.
PLEASE NOTE: All textual research requests must be submitted in advance of your appointment. You can obtain request forms by emailing . The Official Military Personnel Files are subject to the Privacy Act of 1974 and must be screened before being served in the research room. Additionally, requests for records affected by the 1973 NPRC fire may be delayed due to preservation efforts.
Additional records may have access restrictions. Access restrictions are indicated in the National Archives Catalog page for the records series. Researchers must contact The National Archvies at St. Louis (. ) no later than three to four weeks prior to their visit if they wish to view restricted records. Unfortunately, staff cannot conduct on-demand, day-of screening.
