On this one day textile screen printing workshop you will learn how to prepare imagery for screen printing, and how to coat and expose screens using the photo emulsion method. You will explore colour using textile pigment inks and learn how to mix colours for screen printing. You will be encouraged to develop a range of surface pattern prints using layering techniques with a focus on colour, shape and pattern. What experience do I need?
This is a mixed ability course for beginners and those with more experience. Those with previous experience of screen printing may use the course to develop ideas and gain advice from the tutor, although experience is not necessary.
What will I make?
You will make a small selection of screen printed fabric samples using screen printing techniques. You can also print onto plain products such as tea towels or cotton bags if you wish, so feel free to bring these along with you.
Who is my tutor?
Kirstie Williams is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop. She is a practising designer and printmaker, creating both textile and paper based work. She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. She is passionate about bringing together a creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.
Do I need to bring anything?
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, photo emulsion, and a range of ink colours will be provided. Small fabric samples will be provided to get you started but you will need to bring further fabric for printing along with you. Natural fabrics such as a plain cotton or linen would be best to print on.
