Break out your best western wear, Carrollton. TEXFest is turning 10.Come on down Saturday, March 1 from 3-9 p.m. for a free celebration of Texas Independence Day, featuring craft beer, good food, and local artists performing Texas music. This year will be 10 times the good times in Historic Downtown Carrollton.
FLEXXAS’ DJ sets will warm up the crowd from 3-3:30 p.m., and deliver two more sessions from 5-5:30 p.m., and 7-7:30 p.m. between the rest of the entertainment. FLEXXAS’ one-of-a-kind experiences seamlessly blend remixed classic country hits with vibrant elements of disco, house, and tech house. The result is an electrifying whirlwind of sound guaranteed to keep any crowd on their feet and dancing away.
Timothy James will get the place stomping at 3:30 p.m. to kick off the event. James is an Americana singer-songwriter and country music artist and has opened for major acts, including Luke Bryan, Vince Gill, Rodney Atkins, and David Nail. James continues to captivate audiences with heartfelt music that honors country’s rich legacy while forging his unique path in the genre.
Asalto will be headlining the event from 5:30-7 p.m. They are a West Texas-based Tejano band known for blending original compositions and dynamic covers that captivate audiences. Formed in 2021, the group has been electrifying the regional music scene, delivering a unique fusion of traditional Tejano rhythms with contemporary twists. With a repertoire spanning energetic cumbias to soulful ballads, Asalto brings a fresh perspective to the Tejano genre while honoring its rich heritage. Their music is a testament to their passion for connecting with fans and pushing the boundaries of tradition.
Dan Johnson will bring home the evening from 7:30-9 p.m. with his dynamic, live performance. Johnson has played venues from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota to intimate theaters from across the U.S. and Europe, captivating audiences and leaving lasting impressions. Raised on a Kentucky homestead steeped in Appalachian traditions, his musical roots run deep, with a family legacy that includes his great aunt Jean Ritchie, "The Mother of Folk." Over the past decade, Johnson has released two studio albums, including the debut Salt Cedar Rebels, featuring the hit “Better than This,” and Hemingway, which supports his veteran suicide prevention initiative. Operation Hemingway. He has shared the stage with legends like John Michael Montgomery and Texas favorites such as Randy Rogers and Parker McCollum. Splitting his time between Fort Worth, Texas, and the Colorado mountains, Johnson says songs are stories waiting to be told, and he serves as their conduit.
In addition to great music, TEXFest offers a variety of food options, as well as several on-site craft beer offerings from local breweries, coordinated by Downtown Carrollton’s own 3 Nations Brewing Co. Custom TEXFest beer glasses will be on sale, so everyone of age can enjoy responsibly and in style within the event’s beer garden, complete with community seating, crafts, artisan vendors, and some of the best barbecue in Texas.
If lager lovers have a competitive side, the branded drink glasses are available through a TEXFest Bingo Card contest as well. Complete five activities in a row on the card in any direction, have it marked as completed by each vendor, and redeem the card for a TEXFest event glass (while supplies last) at the Carrollton information booth located on Broadway and Main Streets.
Guests will also get the chance to put their cowboy skills to the test by taking a rowdy ride on a rockin’ mechanical bull. Make sure to capture the memories of the celebration by taking a photo with a live longhorn or by visiting the giant Texas flag photo station, the Texas-shaped statue, or stepping inside the photo booth.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event, which has drawn thousands to Historic Downtown Carrollton over the past nine years. Event sponsors to date include Just 4 Kids Urgent Care.
