About this Event

The City of Fort Worth Water Department and Tarrant Regional Water District proudly present Texas Tough Plants on Thursday, February 13th, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Join Master Gardener Heather Bass from TRWD as she discusses the challenges and choices facing North Texans regarding plants that can survive any weather.

Native Texas plants thrive in our harsh local climate and soils. Whether you want a traditional suburban yard or an extravagant butterfly garden, using native Texas plants and resource conscious design principles can help you get the best yard on the block without too much effort.

Whether you're a potted plant person, a garden guru, or just looking to learn more about North Texas plants and gardening, this class is for you. Learn how to create a lush Texas yard by choosing tough plants that are native to our region!

Learn about:

  • Why it is beneficial to plant native plants
  • The basic principles of sustainable landscape design
  • Native perennial flowers, wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, and trees
  • How to choose and find native plants for your North Texas yard

This course will offered in-person only, inside the beautiful Botanic Research Institute of Texas building at the north end of the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens main parking lot. Parking is always free, and guests are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early and bring any supplies, such as snacks, drinks, or notebooks, to make the seminar as comfortable as possible.
