ABOUT Katie Gregory will be presenting on the research that she is conducting for her dissertation: improving the methodology for making dissolved greenhouse gas concentration measurements in rivers & using dissolved greenhouse gas data to better understand rivers as natural sources of gases to the atmosphere.
She will touch on the role and history of greenhouse gases in climate change and iterate why it is important for scientists to understand both natural and man-made sources of these gases, while highlighting the use of tinker-technology in the kayak-based measurement system they deploy in their fieldwork, while also sharing findings from their analysis of the Genesee River.
YOUR SPEAKER
Katie Gregory is a graduate student at the University of Rochester Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, nearly finished with her PhD advised by Dr. John D. Kessler. Her undergraduate work was in marine sciences at Stony Brook University in Long Island. Between her undergraduate and graduate work, she worked in Oregon as a shellfish biologist for the State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
She is a Rochester native involved in many facets of community service and organizing, and has volunteer experience with the Rochester Young Scientists Club (RYSC) at URMC, the Verona Street Animal Shelter (VSAS), and the Rochester Mutual Aid Network (RMAN).
