Join artist Terry Winters for a talk on the process and inspirations of his work, followed by an artist interview with Jordan Schnitzer.
Terry Winters (b. 1949) is a dominant figure in American abstraction. His paintings and works on paper explore the relationships between our understanding of the world through rational systems and its ineffable nature. Richly associative and visionary in scope, his art demonstrates the power of abstraction to carry expressive meaning beyond pure form alone. It reaffirms the potential of abstraction to be an art of visceral power and great beauty.
Amplitude: Terry Winters Prints Since 2000 from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation explores a richly innovative period for the artist. Showcasing Winters’ mastery of traditional printmaking techniques and inventive explorations across various print media, this exhibition offers a captivating journey through his creative evolution. The exhibition underscores the critical relationship between Winters’ prints, drawings, and paintings, inviting contemplation on the interconnectedness of his artistic vision.
Derived from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation—one of the largest private print collections in the world—the exhibition is curated by art historian Richard H. Axsom, who is also the author of a forthcoming catalogue raisonné on Winters’ printed work.
