A Little About the Arts Instigator

Terry Olson has been a staple in the Orange County community for over two decades. He served as the only Arts & Cultural Affairs administrator for Orange County for 23 years. His tenure began in 2001, when the county’s Arts & Cultural Affairs Office was established. A dedicated advocate for the arts, Terry has played a significant role in shaping the cultural landscape of Orlando, Florida. His influence extends beyond administrative duties as he actively fosters creativity, collaboration, and artistic growth.

Terry brought the National Arts Program to Orange County and several venues in Florida. Terry has overseen the development of the Public Art Program and developed several audience awareness campaigns. Under his leadership, the office oversaw the distribution of funds to arts nonprofits in Orange County. This funding grew significantly over the years, supporting over 40 organizations with more than $7 million in funding annually. Working closely with United Arts of Central Florida, to ensure effective funding allocation; together, they managed the funds from the tourist development tax, benefiting the local arts community.

Terry’s impact extends beyond funding. He played a role in creating iconic institutions like SAK Comedy Lab, the Orlando Fringe Festival, and FusionFest. Terry Olson’s impact on Orlando’s arts scene is immeasurable, and his enthusiasm for all things cultural will be greatly missed. Although he is retiring from his official position, he remains passionate about advocating for the arts. His legacy will continue to shape Central Florida’s vibrant cultural scene.

His enthusiasm and dedication have left an indelible mark on the arts and cultural fabric of Orange County. His legacy will be celebrated by artists, organizations, and audiences alike for years to come. Please join us in celebrating Terry's 20 plus years of service to the community.
