In Terry Gilliam’s (Monty Python, 12 Monkeys) ultra-surreal adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s gonzo epic, an oddball journalist, and his psychopathic lawyer travel to Las Vegas for a series of psychedelic escapades.
Based on the real life experiences of journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a wild and psychedelic satirical black comedy that delves into the dark extremes of American excess. Journalist Raoul Duke and his lawyer Dr Gonzo drive from LA to Las Vegas on a never-ending drug binge. They nominally cover news stories, including a convention on drug abuse, all the while sinking deeper into a frightening psychedelic otherworld. As Vietnam, Altamont and the Tate killings impinge from the world of TV news, Duke and Gonzo see casinos, reptiles and the American dream crumbling before their eyes. (USA, 1998, 118 Mins, R, English | Dir. Terry Gilliam)
