‘Chaos Theory’ is a term coined by the main character Nahr in the book, ‘Against the Loveless World’ written by Susan Abulhawa. Nahr describes chaos as the power of the unexpected - a disruption to patterns, systems, and rules that do not serve us. What if messiness or the wilderness is a structure of its own? What if we were to bend with, attune to, and harmonize with the rapidly changing seasons that surround us?
‘Chaos Theory: Kids Art Club’ is a new all-ages art club welcoming any kind of young and creative person who wants to play with and practice art. This includes and ranges from total beginners to the world of art, to those who just want to hang out and make art, to young masters wanting to perfect their craft! This part-class part-club honors a community ethos where we will learn to support each other and make it to the finish line of our art projects together. This is an 8-week term on Saturdays, involving:
What Students Will Learn
An introductory class where we will reflect our personal histories with art (what art we like, why we like or are curious about art), our many varying skill levels, as well as time, space and guidance in considering what our aspirations within and beyond the class are. through sharing, we will see who neighbors us in our community.
3 x skill-building classes involving induction to the studio space, materials, and appropriate communal etiquette (how we treat each other, ourselves, and the space). plus free-time to develop ideas independently, collaboratively or with guidance from emma h.
3 x workshopping classes involving independent or collaborative time to work on their projects. students are welcome to bring their own materials as well as use the materials at bankstown arts centre.
A final class where we will show our work through a mini exhibition. parents/guardians/friends and family are welcome to join at the end for sharing time.
