TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a series of exercises designed to help the body release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma. These exercises were created by Dr. David Berceli, a trauma recovery expert, and are particularly effective for targeting the psoas muscle, which is a core muscle deeply involved in the body's stress response.
The psoas muscle is located in the lower lumbar region of the spine, extending through the pelvis to the femur. It plays a crucial role in stabilizing the spine and facilitating movement such as walking, running, and bending. Due to its central location and connection to the fight-or-flight response, the psoas muscle often holds a significant amount of tension and trauma.
There are actually shamans in South America who teach TRE to their participants prior to their plant ceremony experiences. The reason for this is that it introduces the participants to the experience of body tremors/vibrations as pleasurable and healing. This allows them to have the experience of ‘letting go’ without the fear of ‘losing control’. It mitigates this fear. Many people will experience body tremors during plant medicine ceremonies and find them frightening which causes a resistance. When they experience the tremors in TRE first, then they can actually 'go with' the tremors allowing them to be one of the healing mechanisms they can participate with during their ceremonial experience which makes the experience much more pleasurable. These exercises aim to create a safe space for the body to unwind and release deep-rooted stress and tension, promoting both physical and emotional healing.
This is a ticketed event. Please make sure to obtain a ticket prior to coming to this event, as there is limited space. While the TRE exercises are not overly complicated nor excessively challenging, please make sure you feel healthy enough to attend this event safely. The exercises focus primarily on stressing the lower back and leg muscles.
TRE Benefits:
- **Stress Reduction**: By targeting the psoas muscle, these exercises help to release accumulated tension and stress from the body.
- **Trauma Release**: TRE exercises are designed to tap into the body's natural tremor mechanism, facilitating the release of trauma stored in the muscles.
- **Improved Flexibility**: Regular practice can enhance the flexibility and mobility of the hips and lower back.
- **Enhanced Well-being**: Reducing tension in the psoas can lead to a greater sense of relaxation, emotional balance, and overall well-being.
