Tenebrae entered the musical landscape over 20 years ago, as a choir deeply committed to dramatic concert presentation complementing its unmistakable sound. This year they return to the piece that most profoundly encapsulated this philosophy in the group’s early days - with fresh eyes, ideas and voices - and pair it with the music of a composer who has unquestionably helped to define the sound of British choral music.
Joby Talbot’s modern masterpiece, Path of Miracles was Tenebrae’s first major commission in 2005 and has been captivating audiences worldwide ever since. The work is based on the most enduring route of Catholic pilgrimage - the great Pilgrimage to Santiago. The four movements are titled with the
names of the four main staging posts of the ‘Camino Frances’ - the central axis of a network of pilgrimage routes to Santiago. This unique, dramatic work, 'an evocative odyssey' (The Times),
showcases the voices of Tenebrae’s world-class singers.
Tenebrae stunned Canterbury Festival audiences with Path of Miracles in 2017 and we couldn’t resist bringing this very special
concert back to mark our 40th birthday.
