About this Event
Please join us for this special event with artists Andrea Francke and Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau as they try to make theory together and in public. This Fire Station Artist’ Studios event takes place in partnership with National College of Art and Design (NCAD) Painting.
Throughout this season, Matt has been slowly trying to articulate a theory of the dot in painting. Now we will face the problem head-on and explore the dot together from both a formalist and Marxist perspective. We will look at Georges Seurat’s neo-impressionist paintings where the dot might figure as a mark of labour alienation and Emily Kam Kngwarray’s ontological use of the dot in the context of Aboriginal Australian painting. What could be made visible or invisible by a genealogy of painting that centres the dot?
This will be a live recording of episode 6 of Ten Texts on Painting, and the recording will be edited and released in spring 2026. Ten Texts on… is a reading group podcast about art, published by The Bad Vibes Club since 2023. Series one was Ten Texts on Sculpture, and the current series is on painting. It is available on all good podcast services.
