About this Event

Tempo Doeloe 2025: A Journey Through Time, Where Memories Come to Life.

Tempo Doeloe is an annual cultural event organized by PPIA University of Melbourne to bring the colourful glamour of Indonesia’s rich traditions, flavors, and nostalgia to the heart of Melbourne. Since its inception in 2023, Tempo Doeloe has served as a day market experience, immersing visitors in the sights, sounds, and tastes of Indonesia’s past. This event provides a welcoming and festive platform for people to interact, engage in cultural experiences, and celebrate Indonesian heritage together.

The name “Tempo Doeloe”, meaning “a time of old”, reflects a deep connection to Indonesia’s history, where the traditions and intangible heritage of the past continue to shape our present. It is a nostalgic journey for Indonesians longing for a taste of home, while also offering an opportunity for non-Indonesians to explore and appreciate the country’s diverse cultural expressions.

✨ 2025 Theme: Classic Batavia ✨

This year, Tempo Doeloe brings visitors back to the golden era of Classic Batavia—Jakarta’s old colonial town, known for its unique blend of Indonesian, Dutch, and Chinese influences. Inspired by the vibrant atmosphere and charm of Kota Tua (Old Town Jakarta), the event will showcase iconic cultural elements, cultural performances, and culinary delights reminiscent of Batavia’s bustling markets and social gatherings.
