(In person only) As a part of our call to radical hospitality and to holy humility, we invite families with children or youth to participate in this Godly Play, Montessori-based, approach to unlearning racism. Our faith tradition provides a strong foundation to better understand how racism draws us from the heart of God. Our Trinity community provides a network of trusted relationships in which to encounter and grow from these stories. Over six Sundays, from 11:30-12:30, families will gather to hear a Godly Play-style story about the history of racism and its effects, reflect on the story in age-appropriate groups, and come together to respond creatively. This first cohort is limited to families with participating children. We ask families to commit to all six sessions. This program is best for children aged 5 and up. Childcare will be offered for younger siblings.

“Tell Me the Truth About Racism invites people of all ages into powerful wondering about the legacy of racism in our lives, but it holds a special gift for our youngest Christian disciples. Children are sponges of curiosity, absorbing everything they can to make sense of the world. Sadly, because racism is so systemic in the world, it is also one of the things they will absorb. We believe that framing racism in the context of our faith offers a powerful value system to ground an otherwise difficult discussion. Our approach defines racism as “The lie in our world that some people are better than others based on the color of their skin.” It is only because of the Truth we know from God, that all people are equally children of God, that we can clearly frame racism as a lie about our identity.”
