Steph Shea will guide you through the ins and outs of applying for college, covering all frequently asked questions to ensure a smooth transition into higher education.

Topics covered in the session include:

  • What colleges look for in student applications
  • How to produce a viable college list
  • Reach vs. target vs. likely schools
  • Setting up the student’s Common App account
  • Common App overview
  • Various deadlines: Early Decision vs. Early Action vs. Regular
  • To submit SAT/ACT test scores or not? Where are colleges on testing these days?
  • Which teachers should a student ask for recommendation letters?
  • How to pursue scholarships

Steph Shea is a communicator, educator, and mentor with over two decades of experience in the college counseling world. She has helped hundreds of students find the college that was the right fit for them, and where they went on to thrive. Steph has a background in writing and editing, and absolutely loves coaching students on their college essays. Steph has a BA from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree from Harvard University, where she specialized in modern American fiction. Steph is the founder and owner of Launch College Consultants, based in Arlington. She is an active member of the NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling). In her free time, you can find Steph in the yoga studio, on the soccer field, or surfing in Rehoboth Beach. She loves dogs, dope tunes, coffee, reading, and hanging out with her three daughters.

Transportation: Parking in the garage located beneath the Bozman Government Center is free on weekends and after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. We are also accessible via public transit: by Metro (Orange and Silver Lines - Courthouse) and by bus.
