About this Event

Looking for a fun afternoon activity for the big kids? Are they interested in learning about decorating sugar cookies? Crystal's Cookies is here to help! In this 2 -hour class, we'll cover the basics to sugar cookies, do some piping practice with royal icing, talk about how to plan the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing! Everything your child needs is provided at class along with a live in-person instructor – just have them bring a smile (and maybe an apron).

This month features a day at the beach – just in time for summer vacation! Enjoy seashells, swimsuits, and beach waves!

Your child will leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies plus a few cool techniques we'll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, credits, and FAQs are below - looking forward to having your child in class with us!

About this Class

This class is for beginner cookiers ages 10-18 and their parents(drop-off available, or purchase a ticket for yourself and join us!) We will be doing a fun “Sand and Sugar” theme set that tastes amazing (vanilla-almond, yum!) and will look even better once they're decorated!

I provide everything from cookies, icing, sprinkles, and a box to take your awesome creations home in - we just need YOU! Each baker-to-be gets 6 cookies, 4 icing colors, sprinkles, and all the tools necessary to knock this cookie class out of the park! Everything is prepped right before class – so no baking or icing mixing required. Just decorate!

This class is on July 1, 2024 and goes from 1:30pm – 3:30pm sharp so we can have enough time to decorate and answer questions along the way. Students are welcome to come individually, with their besties, or bring the whole family - there is seating for up to 14 people! It's a blast whether they're coming with a friend, family member, or solo! All adults must be accompanied by a teen or tween student for this class session.

Want a chance for more practice at home? Purchase an add-on kit (more on that below!) The kits are great for younger kids at home, or for having your student show off what they learned by teaching YOU once they get home!

The class will be helped at The Spinning Wheel in Leander, Tx located at 2205 S. Bagdad Rd. Leander, Tx, 78641

FAQs

What will my child be doing in the class?

Besides having the most fun ever? We will be going over some cookie facts, decorating techniques and will be decorating their very own set of cookies to take home with them that day.

Can I purchase an additional take-home kit?

Yes! Many parents purchase additional class kits for their kids to take home and re-do after the classes. You can purchase an add-on kit during check-out. The kit will be available at the end of the class - so don't forget it! If you’re skipping class and just ordering the kit for your kiddo – swing by anytime during class to sneak in and pick it up – it’ll be labeled with your name!

Does my child need to know how to bake?

Nope! No baking history required. I will have the cookies pre-made along with the icing already mixed and colored. Have a little decorating experience under their belt… er… apron? Come on too! I can help with questions on icing mixing and dough spread!

What will we learn in class?

We'll learn what goes into preparing royal icing and the value of different icing consistencies – we’ll touch on tips and tricks to make the cookies look even better than they taste (and they taste good!) We'll also talk about different decorating techniques depending on the class theme such as marbling, outlining, wet-on-wet, brush embroidery, and painting. Or your child may channel their inner artist, go off script and make their own designs – it’s their class!

What does my child need to bring?

Nothing but a smile! Everything will be provided including my (rather tasty) sugar cookies. All they need to do is join us and have fun! Messy decorator? They can bring your own apron or just wear easy-to-wash clothing. Oh – and bring their phone – I love photos!

What age is best for cookie classes?

This class session is specifically for teens and tweens (parents/grandparents welcome to join too!) Drop-offs are welcome! Seating is limited, so every person remaining for the duriation of the class is required to purchase a class ticket.

What will my child bring home?

By the end of the class, each student will have created a set of their own decorated cookies ready to dry their own box. Drying times vary but expect cookies to need 4-6 hours in front of a fan to be completely dry - if they don't get eaten in the car on the ride home! Any leftover icing with also be sent home, as well as your child's own personal decorators stylus. And of course, they’ll have new skills, memories, and fun!

Can I sign my child up as an individual? What about a group?

You can sign them up either as an individual, with a friend, or with a whole group. The more the merrier! We are limited to a total of 14 seats per class, so definitely sign them up ASAP!

Where are the classes located?

This class will be held at The Spinning Wheel in Leander, Tx - that address is 2205 S. Bagdad Rd. Leander Tx, 78641.

We signed up for a class but can't make it?

:( I understand that life happens so that’s why I allow you to cancel up to 7 days before the class. You can always transfer your spot to a friend though (and what a nice friend you are). Any cancelation after the 7 days will be a class credit redeemable for up to 6 months from the credit issue date.

Cancelation / Refund

You Don't Show Up or Email Prior To Class:

If I do not hear from you before class day, and your child does not show up for class, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit. So please reach out before class day if you need to cancel!

Things to Bring

Wondering what your student needs to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here’s the things I recommend!

· Bring an apron! Things can get messy when workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where they got it!)

· Bring a phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so have them bring a phone!

· Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.

About Crystal's Cookies

A little about me – I’ve been baking sugar cookies since 2016 – and I’ve not put down a scribe since (don’t know what a scribe is? I’ll learn about it in class!). My favorite cookie themes to decorate are for baby showers, birthdays and weddings – but I can do pretty much anything if icing’s involved. I love what I do – who wouldn’t love making cookies?! It’s the sweetest job in the world!

When I'm not baking in the kitchen, I'm busy homeschooling my own kids! I'm a mom of 4 and have been homeschooling for 9 years, so I might have a little experience teaching! My 2 oldest kiddos (both tweens) have already insisted they'll be attending this class!

DIY / Add-On Kits

Order additional sugar cookie class kits and take the class home with you to teach a child or friend! These class kits come with everything they'll use in class, and including the class guide so they can follow our step-by-step instructions from home! Cookie Class DIY Kits are created before class, and you'll pick them up and take them with you after class.

How long can a kit last? Depending on how you store the icing, DIY kits can last for a week or longer. Freezing cookies keep them fresh for a long time, but I recommend using your kit as soon as possible - ideally in the first week after it's been taken home. Cookies are heat sealed for freshness – but again, use it in under a week to make sure it tastes the best.

Allergen Disclaimer / Class Cancelation Policy / Weather Policy / Fees Disclaimer

Allergens: Heads up – these cookies include the following ingredients: powdered sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, almond extract, baking powder, salt, flour, water, meringue powder, various food colorings.

Please note – these cookies are prepared in a kitchen that also bakes with common, known allergens: eggs, peanuts, tree nuts

Please consider your child's allergies before registering them!

Class Cancelation Policy: Classes may be canceled at the discretion of me, the event host. This rarely happens – but in that extremely rare event that it does, you’ll receive a 100% refund including your Eventbrite fees.

Classes with attendance below 3 will be canceled. Don’t be sad! You can either get a class credit for a future class (along with my apologies), or a full refund! I’ll let you know if the class has low attendance a few days before the event is canceled so that you can bring a friend (hint hint) or find other plans for that day.

Weather Policy: Sometimes Texas weather doesn’t play well with cookie class schedules. In the event of inclement weather, I’ll contact you with options – these may differ depending on the weather event, but rest assured – we’ll figure something out!

Eventbrite Fees: Your ticket price includes your ticket fees; however, Eventbrite does not refund its fees. If you cancel your ticket and request a refund prior to the cancelation window expiring, I’ll happily give you a refund less the Eventbrite fee – since I don’t get this fee back either. Eventbrite keeps it regardless of whether you show up or cancel. I know – I hate it too!
