The English-Speaking Union Colonial NC Branch kicks off the 2026 National High School Shakespeare Contest with an information meeting at the Epiphany School of Global Studies. The event will feature a lecture by Dr. Catherine Loomis, 2025 National Contest Judge, university professor, lecturer, and author of books and essays about Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I. This talk looks at the lives of teenagers in Shakespeare’s time, at Shakespeare’s own teenage years, and at the use Shakespeare makes of teenagers in his plays. The presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer period and a short reception. Donations will be accepted for the Epiphany Friends of the Arts. This event is free and open to the public. It should be especially of interest to high school English and Drama teachers and students in grades 9 to 12. The winner of the Colonial NC Branch's contest qualifies to compete in the National Finals in New York City next April.
