About this Event
This is a 5 week outdoor after-school program where we will learn about nature, create art, and make food! Classes will be held in historic apple orchard at Heritage Pond on Monday afternoons, with our last class of the fall session meeting on a Saturday. Students can expect to have fun spending time with their friends (and making new ones) while getting their hands dirty with a variety of fun nature based projects. Examples include using native plants to make ink, building giant mushrooms out of wood and concrete, and creating delicious food with ingredients from the orchard. Students will have opportunities to practice collaboration, build confidence, and contribute to community projects happening at Heritage Pond.
Teachers: Rebecca Curry & Anne McNamee
Rebecca Curry is an artist and has a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. During her eight years in the mental health field, her main focus was group work, specifically using art and other activities to increase healthy coping.
Anne McNamee has worked in schools, farmers markets and community spaces to help people connect to their food and the natural world. As an EOU student, community organizer and garden teacher in New Orleans, and most recently with her children.
