What is Tech20?
Tech20 features world-leading experts, exploring the latest tech trends, asking big questions and sharing big ideas. Tech20 is a social, in-person showcase for speakers presenting technology focused topics, using a unique format: 20-minute networking, 20-minute presentation, and 20-minute Q&A.
Tech20s aim to inspire & innovate, discover new or surprising technologies, challenge technologies and release the spark within!
This Tech20:
Subsea inspection and surveys require highly accurate modelling, and can be an expensive process, to support activities such as site assessments, detailed inspections, and asset maintenance.
Subsea Enhanced Autonomous Mapping (SEAMless) is an InnovateUK, NZTC, Ministry of Defence, and Royal Navy funded project focused on the development of advanced mapping, fused sensing, and the visualization of complex 3D digital models. Thus, enabling robust, safe navigation, and precise awareness of autonomous vehicles within challenging and complex subsea environments.
In this Tech20, Chris Abbott, Senior Delivery Manager at Rovco and Vaarst, will:
- Provide an overview of the SEAMless project to date.
- Explore technical innovations that are guiding SEAMless.
- Discuss partner collaboration for innovation within subsea robotics.
This project has received funding from UK and Scottish Governments through the Aberdeen City Region Deal.
Chris's Bio:
Graduated from the University of Bath with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering in 2016, before landing a role in computer vision for sports technology. I’m now supporting an incredible team of robotics engineers at Vaarst to develop autonomous systems and perception sensors for the subsea industry.
