About this Event

Teapot Lantern Workshop: Brewing Light & Connections

Light up the night with your own story! As part of the Victoria at Dusk festival, join artist Ann K. Chou for a hands-on workshop blending tradition, community, and eco-friendly art. Using a unique "depressed cup" technique, you will transform everyday materials into a glowing teapot lantern.

In this session, we invite you to use Sumi-e ink to paint motifs or words from your own heritage onto your lantern, sharing your "language" and story with your neighbors. Once finished, carry your lantern through the CloudWalk—a magical path of fairy lights and inflatable clouds at the Conference Centre Pavilion.

Please select 'Reserve a spot' to register for either the 5:10 PM or 6:40 PM technical demonstration. Pre-registration ensures you have a dedicated set of materials and a reserved seat at our communal maker table.
Agenda
  • 5:00 PM: Doors open for Drop-ins (Space/Material permitting)
  • 5:10 PM: Technical Demo #1 (Registration Required)
  • 6:40 PM: Technical Demo #2 (Registration Required)
  • 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM: Ongoing "Rolling" Workshop & Drop-in creation

The Experience
  • Heritage Brushwork: Use traditional Sumi-e ink to letter symbols, words, or motifs that represent your background.
  • Collaborative Art: Create two ink "skins"—one to keep for your lantern and one to leave for the next person, creating a continuous thread of connection.
  • The CloudWalk: After the workshop, take your lantern to the Conference Centre Pavilion to walk among the "inflatable clouds."
