Teaching Institute: Building Capacity & Wellbeing

The independent school landscape is changing, and teachers have been under ever-increasing pressure to meet the demands of parents, public health officials, politicians, and others. Exhaustion, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future is at an all-time high, yet each day teachers are called upon to bring their best selves to their students. For teachers new to the profession and/or new to independent schools, the past few years have been even more challenging. This program will support independent school educators to consider how self-care and personal wellbeing can coexist in a student-centered responsive classroom, and will provide practical strategies to engage students while also maintaining personal/professional boundaries. Using practical strategies that participants will be able to apply in classrooms in the new school year, the retreat will center around the question:

How can teachers support the academic and social/emotional needs of students, while maintaining their own personal and professional wellbeing?

Topics will include:

• Best practices in teaching and learning for diverse learners: differentiated instruction, cultural competency, and authentic assessment
• Strategies to support child and adolescent social-emotional development
• Setting and maintaining personal-professional boundaries
• Personal and professional sustainability: (Re-)Imagining and (re-)Connecting your personal ‘why’ with the day-to-day

This program is aimed at teachers from any grade level and discipline, and small group breakouts will support divisional- and subject-specific discussion. Teachers should be within their first several years of independent school teaching.

Cost:

• Early Bird Pricing - Before June 1, 2022: $650
• On/After June 1, 2022: $750
• Registration includes lunch and snacks throughout the two days, as well as all materials, handouts, and supplies.

Safety & Vaccination Information:

Providing a safe environment for retreat attendees is our top priority. In-person attendees will follow appropriate safety guidelines as set forth by county, state, and on-site officials.

Proof of vaccination, including a Booster, is required for participation in the retreat. All participants will be required to submit proof of full vaccionation & booster before attending the retreat.

In-person attendance may be limited based on social-distancing guidelines and other appropriate safety measures. COVID-19 guidelines may change as we move through the spring. We’ll keep you posted as these guidelines or policies evolve over time. If EH Consulting cancels the program due to state and county mandates prohibiting in-person gatherings, participants will receive a full refund. EH Consulting is not responsible for any additional financial loss or commitments incurred by attendees.

Participation in the program signifies an attendee’s acknowledgement of infectious and other diseases and voluntary assumption of the risk of exposure or infection by attending the event. Attendees agree to comply with all guidelines and procedures, including distancing and/or masking, that may be implemented by EH Consulting and/or host facilities, in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and other public health authorities and/or advisors.

Cancellation & Refund Policy:

All refunds must be requested in writing to [email protected] and confirmed in writing by EH Consulting. Refunds will be issued in accordance with the following guidelines:

• 75% of enrollment fee will be refunded when requested on or before June 1, 2022
• No refund will be given after June 1, 2022 though you may transfer your enrollment to another individual until July 15, 2022.

EH Consulting reserves the right to cancel the program due to insufficient enrollment. If EH Consulting cancels the program, participants will be notified in advance and will receive a full refund. EH Consulting is not responsible for any additional financial loss or commitments incurred by attendees.
