About this Event

Whether you've known about the Digital Divide for a while, or just learned about it last year, we know we are long overdue for change and we need your help. Our young people deserve equal access to and opportunities with digital technologies, and if you agree, you're in the right place!

Teachers for Techquity is a grassroots collective of teachers, tech professionals, business leaders, and changemakers who want to support each other to make changes for and with our rangatahi. The collective serves a few core ideals:

  1. To provide a platform for teachers across schools, deciles, and sectors to connect and share what's working for their students to build tech equity;
  2. To provide channels for other industries to connect with educators and institutions to learn about how they can help and serve our next generation of digital changemakers;
  3. To inform and inspire people in all areas of society to promote digital equity and using tech for social good; and
  4. To advocate for the needs of young people and their families who are marginalised and underrepresented in the tech industry for whatever reason.

This first event is to launch the collective, share what we're about, and open up the conversation. No matter which industry you work in - whether you've been a teacher for years or haven't been anywhere near a school since you left - if you care about making digital tech accessible for all young people so they can harness its power and fulfill their potential, please come along.

Here's what to expect:

  • We'll start off with welcome drinks and canapes and some fun connection-building activities so you can get to know the people in the room.
  • Next, we'll have a couple of guest speakers (watch this space for who!) share their journeys in tech, education, and experiences of the digital divide.
  • Last, we'll have our call-to-action - where everyone will have a chance to share what is already happening, how you can get involved (if you aren't already), and what our next steps are.

Dress code is semi-formal. We're not talking black tie, but please come along in whatever you think represents you best and makes you shine. Overall, we want this to be a fun and inspiring evening to kick off the second half of the school year and kick up some hope dust for all of us to sparkle with.

Teachers get 50% off tickets - just pop your registration number in when you buy. Price includes a welcome drink and refreshments, and discounted alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be available throughout the evening.

If you've got any questions, please reach out to [email protected].

We're excited to see you on 11th August!
