About this Event
Welcome to our Tea Talk Series: Here's Her Pitch event!
Join us at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13th at Room 230, Baker Center, Ohio University, for an inspiring event, "Tea Talk Series: Here's Her Pitch", featuring two dynamic women, Akisa Fukuzawa and Ruth Lu, who will share their unique journeys of breaking barriers and embracing authenticity.
Akisa Fukuzawa, a PhD student at OU, Sports Ad alum, and the head coach of Ohio’s Women’s Baseball Club team, and Ruth Lu, a non-traditional ceremonial tea artist and grant-winning writer, come from Asian backgrounds—one from Japan, the other from China. They grew up steeped in traditional values that often-encouraged women to fulfill many roles, while keeping their voices quiet. Through this conversation, they explore a new way of thinking and leadership in the realms of art and sports, challenging cultural stereotypes and retelling their stories.
Over ceremonial Chinese tea and Japanese treats, they will share their life stories, from their upbringing in Asia to their experiences in Ohio, where they have transplanted their lives, passions, and professional pursuits.
Together, Akisa and Ruth reflect on what it means to be a woman navigating both the traditional and contemporary worlds, while also reshaping the spaces for women in the today's global society.
Event is free and open to public, but registration is required so that we have enough tea and treats available for everyone.
*This event is independently organized by Akisa and Ruth. It is not sponsored or affiliated with any organizations or initiatives. All content and stories shared are authentic and personal to the hosts.
