About this Event
Now that the hot days of summer are mostly behind us, it’s time to focus on some fall fun and the return of our Tea and Talent Time workshops. On Sunday, October 13th at 2:00, Jane Campbell will be doing our first scheduled workshop of the fall. Join Jane, professional fiber artist and teacher, for an exciting workshop and tea. Using your imagination with wool and a little elbow grease you will create a one of a kind felted landscape art piece and close the afternoon with a delicious tea.
Jane began playing with textiles from an early age and it has always brought her a sense of accomplishment. Knitting, which she learned from her grandmother and an elementary teacher has been a big part of her craft. She then began weaving on an old barn loom at a local historical site which took her down the path of spinning and dyeing fibers. As a member of the Blue Ridge Fiber Guild she stayed very involved in textile arts. Finally, an article in the early 90s about felting intrigued her and she began her path to felting wool. Jane says “Playing with wet felting took finding the right fibers before I was satisfied with the results. Felting has been my main textile focus since. Starting with animal fibers, water, and soap to tangle and bind the fibers into a non woven material is magic and never gets old.”
Over the years Jane has taken and led many workshops, where she says she always learns from well known instructors and the students in her classes. Jane is a former member of the Village of Yesteryear at the NC State Fair and a member of Hands Cooperative Craft Gallery in Boone. Her work can also be found at the Crossnore Weaving Room in Crossnore NC, Florence Thomas Art School, and each April at Merlefest in Wilkesboro NC.
This class and tea will be held at Banks Bed and Breakfast in Garner, NC on Sunday, October 13th beginning at 2:00. Participants should bring an apron or wear clothes that can get a little wet, an old towel, and comfortable shoes for this hands-on experience. You can also bring an idea landscape photo to help guide your design. Cost for this class is $58.00 and includes all materials to make your landscape, a frame for the completed project, and the after activity tea. We look forward to seeing you!
