Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom
Step inside a world where every carving holds a story - a living link between ancestors, land, and the people of Aotearoa.
Curated by Master Carver Heemi Te Peeti, this exhibition features the extraordinary work of Heemi, Paora Kereama (Ngai Tuhoe, Ngati Raukawa) and Charlene Fraser.
Together, they present taonga in wood, bone, pounamu, and stone, alongside exquisite harakeke (flax) weaving - each piece carrying the mana, history, and identity of the families and places they represent.
At the heart of the exhibition is the story of Ruatepupuke and Tangaroa, god of the sea - a reminder that carving is a sacred gift handed down from the atua, to be treasured for generations.
These works are more than art.
They are genealogies in form - voices of the past speaking through intricate patterns, guardian figures, and symbols drawn from the natural world.
Come and see the carvings. Listen to their stories. Feel their mana.
