“From the first note to the last, the sound was pumping and the fun never stopped.” – USAToday
The joy-inducing, unstoppable force of entertainment that is MarchFourth celebrates their 20th anniversary this year! A colourful explosion of brassy funk, rock, and jazz, this larger-than-life supergroup of 15 musicians is all about the groove, with dancers and acrobats bringing a contagious spirit of celebration to light up every stage they perform. MarchFourth is, in a word, FUN!
With exceptional musical quality and a visual kaleidoscope of performers, MarchFourth is a spectacle of high-energy compositions, colourful costumes, and irresistible charisma. They have performed with OK Go, Fleetwood Mac, No Doubt, KISS, Blink 182, Balkan Beat Box, Galactic, Rebirth Brass Band, Beats Antique, The Neville Brothers, Antibalas and Pink Martini. M4 has been seen on stages from ESPN’s ESPY Awards to festivals like Burning Man, Bumbershoot, and High Sierra Music Fest, to world-class venues like The Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl, The Fillmore, and even a cultural exchange tour to China, sponsored by the US State Department. MarchFourth’s track “Gospel” (from their self-released album Rise Up, 2009) was featured as the closing credits theme song in the Disney/Pixar animated film, Monsters University. MarchFourth’s newest album Worth It was released in 2023. Join the party and don’t miss out on their exhilarating TD JazzFest debut live in Bullen Park!
Opening for this evening will be Victoria’s own Tight Hair, a bunch of disco-loving misfits that utilized the power of Craigslist and roller skates to form an authentic disco band. Fronted by two powerhouse diva vocals, Hilary Beckett and Katherine Beckett, and backed by a solid horn section, this eight-piece high-energy band covers ‘the hits’ with sweeping synths and raucous guitar riffs. The 'Hair will send you back to 1979 and the days of Studio 54 in a glitter covered whirlwind! Their catalogue includes hits and obscurities from the likes of Donna Summer, Chic, Change, Sylvester, Cerrone, Bee Gees, Abba and Taste of Honey to name a few. Their pounding disco beats and soaring vocal harmonies are sure to make you dance the night away when they open for MarchFourth! Jody Dick keyboards/vocals, Douglas Liseth guitar/vocals, Evert Pater bass, Ian Olsen drums, Eric Hughes saxophones, David Flello trumpet.
