All other compounds of our identities put aside, we are bodies of water. We drink, we leak, we flow, sometimes we pool and get sedimental, but then at some point, we overflow the pool’s limits and keep on flowing. On the way, we come across confluences and get contaminated by the watery encounters, our contents getting impacted, our streams supported, drained, or redirected…
Let’s imagine our life as a river - a dynamic stream that we can regulate to some extent but can never be fully in control of. At times, we can find ourselves stuck in a self-invented aquarium, watching the world around us from behind the glass, while the river keeps passing by. How to break through, let go of its constraints, and follow the stream? And what use can we make of both the dead water that the aquarium contains and the living water as part of the river stream?
At the Kitchen Lab Tarvo residency, we will work with different ways of looking at, being in, and being of water, and see how close, deep, or far our creative streams can take us.
