Twice a month, TCD sponsors contra dances that are open to all. Several times a year when there is a 5th Friday, we decide to host an event targeted for experienced dancers. This is a difficult thing to define, but to borrow from other communities who offer such dances you'll be fine if you:- Are comfortable with the basic moves including heys, mad robins and working with wavy lines.
- Know where to be at the start of each dance phrase and how to recover from a lapse.
- Know how to offer flourishes and do them safely and on time without disturbing others, and know how to decline a flourish offer.
- Can respond to confusion and missteps by others with grace, encouragement and good humor.
If that's describes you, then put this on your calendar!
Band: Here on the Hill (Rose Powell - rhythm guitar; Tory Horner - fiddle; Annie McDougall - fiddle) from Boston MA area
Caller: Joy Greenwolfe
There will be a workshop aimed at experienced dancers at 7:30 and dancing is from 8-11 pm.
No fragrances, please.
Wear comfortable soft-soled shoes and cool, comfortable clothes. No partner expected, and masks are fine.
Our suggested sliding scale for admission is $10 - $30, and TCD needs an average of $20 per dancer to break even. No one is turned away for lack of funds, pay an amount that feels good to you.
