About this Event
Tatreez is the traditional form of Palestinian story-telling through embroidery. It has been practiced for many centuries in Palestine and Palestinian communities in Diaspora as a form of connecting culturally to the land as its roots are from the falahi (or rural) Palestinian communities. A style of cross-stitch, it celebrates a repetition of patterns on dresses and homewares to tell a story. Although known for patterns, it is common for expert grandmas, in the art, to intentionally create a wrong stitch in their pieces to reflect that there is perfection in imperfection and that no matter how skilled a person is, perfection is only reserved for God.
Celebrating community, women in rural Palestine would always meet up and work on their tatreez pieces together, where the younger women learn from the older more experienced generations and discuss daily stories. Join our tatreez circle by bringing your pieces and working in unison on your individual projects. Meet, tarrez, ask each other questions and most importantly get lost in the therapeutic heritage of our thread and needle to finish your own projects or start new ones just like our grandmas did.
*This is a tatreez circle, run by the community, so basic knowledge of tatreez is required as there is no teacher available.

Launched in 2019, KAVE, The Story of Things, is an up-cycling cafe community space that takes people back to their ancestral roots.
