About this Event
Join us on the first Wednesday of each month for our wine discovery series.
Two hundred years ago, stylish young cavalry officers in the French Army would slice the cork off the Champagne bottle with their sabre, rather than put themselves to the effort of easing the cork out by hand. Indeed, their leader Napoleon is known to have said, "Champagne! In victory one deserves it; in defeat one needs it."
In this special event, we will be joined by Bob Weldon-Gamble, Maître Sabreur, who will be on hand to teach you the art of sabrage. All sabreurs will be awarded certificates and their corks as mementos of this occasion.
Our team will also be on hand to explain a little more about our wonderful grower champagnes including a little more about the producers, history and tasting notes.
Please note the tickets (£13) include a lovely seafood, meat and cheese platter, expertly chosen to match quality champagne, but do not include champagne. To have a go at sabrage yourself, simply purchase any bottle of champagne on the night off our menu (https://www.cellarmagnifique.com/menu).
