Deutsche Kronjuwelen Wein – The Crown Jewels of German WineWe hear it all the time: “Isn’t all German wine sweet?” While Germany does produce some of the best sweet wines of the world, most of their wines are dry, with a great mix of outstanding sparkling, whites, rosé, and reds. Join us as we play not only the classics, but the deep cuts as well!
We explore how Germany has adopted the vineyard classification of Burgundy with their Grosses Gewachs, or Great Growth wines, focusing on the premier grape variety of the country, Riesling! Bone dry, ethereal, complex yet elegant, these wines will make you a believer as we explore classic regions such as the Mosel, Rheingau, and the Rheinhessen.
Further, we’ll delve into other white wines, starting with a German favorite, Sekt! Following the bubbles, we will explore how other white varieties – both native and Burgundian –have found a home in Germany while tasting through terroir-driven Elbling and Grauburgunder from some of the region’s top producers.
Last but not least, we’ll end with a selection of reds! Hardly an afterthought, the red wines of Germany can be just as compelling as the whites. Brilliantly showcased staples of the region, such as Pinot Noir, will be included. Prost!
