The Taste of Scotland Society will be serving nips and tatties at the 26th "Burns Night Dinner" to be held on Sunday, Jan. 26 at a new venue, the JR Chophouse on East Main Street in Franklin. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the Calling of the Clans at 6 p.m. and the usual five-course Scottish dinner at 6:30 p.m. Honoring the birthday of Robert Burns, the National Poet of Scotland born Jan. 25, 1759, with an ethnic meal is celebrated worldwide. He is cred- ited with saving the Old Scots musical heritage by going to village pubs and copying down their music often adding his own lyrics. He published a book of these songs called the "Kilmarnock," which he improved and added to over the years. This music, history and dance is part of the "Burns Night Dinner" each year. Tickets are $40 adults and $20 for children under 12. Tickets are avail- able at the Chamber of Commerce, JR Chophouse and Taste of Scotland Society members.
