About this Event
The George Washington University African Students Association is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated annual event—Taste of Africa! This vibrant cultural celebration promises an unforgettable evening filled with music, dance, fashion, and culinary delights, showcasing the rich and diverse heritage of Africa within the GWU community.
This year’s TOA theme is XHUMA—which means "to connect." XHUMA embodies unity, cultural exchange, and the creativity of our diaspora community based in the DMV. Inspired by the resilience of African artistry, which has been used to shape history, tell stories, and overcome struggles, this theme highlights how heritage, creativity, and community remain deeply connected—celebrating the strength, unity, and cultural evolution of African traditions across generations and regions.
TOA 2025 will feature an exciting lineup of performances, including music, dance, singing, and a fashion show highlighting African designers across the world.
Taste of Africa is also a feast for the senses! Enjoy an extraordinary dinner catered by some of the DMV’s best African restaurants, featuring authentic dishes from across the continent—North, East, West, Central, and Southern Africa.
