About this Event
Do you fish in Tasmania? Come along to these relaxed, informative events to meet the people behind the organisations, including those researching and managing your fisheries, all under one roof. NRE Tas (Fisheries Tas), Inland Fisheries Service (IFS), Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) and Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine team from the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) will all be there.
You’ll have opportunities to ask questions, learn new information, tell us what you care about and hear the latest on how different fish stocks are going.
There’ll be plenty of topics including:
- Working towards sand flathead recovery, flathead science and how you can help
- Guiding the future of the rock lobster fishery, and the role that catch reporting plays
- How to fish around Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), plus innovative tips and techniques for targeting species like Australian salmon and yellowtail kingfish with Glen Saltmarsh
- Sharing your scallop catch with non-diving licence holders: how it could work
- The latest news from the IFS, including Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion, the InFish app and Angler Diary, recent fishery perfomance assessments.
- Learn how to stay safe while boating and diving (including hookah) from MAST and the RHH Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit.
Nibbles will be provided and we’ll have the fishing simulators running, so bring a mate and join us to be ready to take on a new season of fishing! This event is free and walk-ins are welcome, but we ask you please book a ticket secure your seat and help us with numbers for catering.
