Tarab" is a new band made up of 6 Arab Australian artists playing classical Arabic music. The aim of Tarab is to build bridges if understanding between the Arab world and the Melbourne community through music, especially after the negative stereotypes often portrayed in the media.
Tarab is made up of experienced musicians from Syria, Armenia, Palestine and Lebanon who now call Melbourne their home.
While we are from Levantine region, our music is mostly classical Egyptian (some date back to 1940s) reflecting the diversity and richness of the Arab world's culture and beauty through Tarab music (a word in Arabic that has no English translation, which roughly means: ecstasy)
With a range of Arab musical instruments such as oud and durbakkeh, as well as western instruments like violin, sax, guitar and org, our music is a fusion of sounds and skills that are simply unique to Melbourne.
*Please note we only have 6 seating areas, socially distanced. First in best seated, and you may be seated with other people on the larger tables, that you do not know. Please note this on booking your ticket as there are no refunds or exchanges. Thanks for understanding.
