TAP 4 THE PPL: BRINGING TOGETHER THE MUSIC & DANCE w/ special guests Jerome Jennings and Jeremy Pelt
Join us for an in-person gathering, hosted by Lisa La Touche, uplifting Culture, Community and Conversation in true GRIOT fashion. Bring your notebooks, Tap shoes (if you got em) or instrument of choice (if you want to bring em) along with your love for Jazz Music and it's Dance!
This will be a time to simply gather and celebrate the joy and traditions of eachothers instruments and legacies. The space will be held to play & share a little together (you know we gotta circle up) and engage in intention focused discussions regrading the parrallels, overlaps, and even at times overlooked cannons of the respected art forms of Tap Dance and Jazz Music. As vernaculars of American dance and music, the influences of dance and music go hand in hand, especially as they are rooted in the history of the African Diaspora in America and the migration stories. It us upon us to cary forth the knowledge, history, and advocy and bring forth the importance of all of the above, in our own collective ways.
With Jerome Jennings, a fearless and leading Drummer/Activist/Bandleader/Historian, and Jeremy Pelt, author of four volumes of "Griot: Examining the lives of Jazz's great storytellers" and fearless and leading Trumpeter/Producer/Educator, we will be going in great depths surrounding the urgency and importance of keeping our torches well lit in our respective art forms.
